Nanotechnology and functional integration in construction materials
Marco Liebscher
Technische Universität Dresden, Institute of Construction Materials

May 20, 2021, 1 p.m.

Nanotechnology can play a key role in developing novel composite construction materials with superior properties with respect to durability, mechanical performance, processability, etc. Moreover, completely new materials can be synthesized, which may provide new functions to traditional construction building materials and enlarge their value and fields of application.
The presentation will give a brief overview about the research activities in the field of nanotechnology conducted at the Institute of Construction Materials at the TU Dresden in recent years. In particular, the topics of nanoparticle synthesis, production of novel cementitious nanocomposites as well as fiber surface modification will be addressed. Thereby, various analytical methods will be presented complementary to elucidate multiple overlaying physical and chemical mechanisms.
The presented studies may contribute to the development of novel high-performance composite materials and should stimulate the conception of building materials with entirely new properties and functions.
