Encoded in the DNA, proteins are crucial for all life processes. Located at the interface of cell inside and outside, membrane proteins are of particular interest, as they are key players in fundamental biological processes such as energy conversion, signal recognition, signal transduction and membrane transport. Beyond that, membrane proteins are also of high medical and pharmaceutical relevance constituting prime drug targets. This presenation gives an overview on biomolecular structure & dynamics and how to investigate membrane proteins by means of molecular dynamics computer simulations, using recent examples from antibiotics resistance research to illustrate practical applications.
