On June 30th after 5pm we will have in Dresden the Long Night of Sciences!
Once a year, Dresden's universities, non-university research institutions and science-related companies open their doors to the public. Throughout the city, a wide variety of formats invite visitors to experience science and technology, research and innovation, art and culture up close. From 17:00-00:00, a colourful programme of lectures, experiments, guided tours and participatory shows awaits all those interested. Students, families, senior citizens and, of course, the little researchers of tomorrow are invited, in short: all night owls who want to experience research interactively and expand their own knowledge.
You can find us at the HAL building of TU Dresden from 6pm till 10pm:
Our offer includes:
The Long Night of Olfaction (Sciences):
At the Chair of Materials Science and Nanotechnology, this year's Long Night of Science will be the Long Night of (Digital) Smelling! From mixing cocktails by smell to the tricky smelling memory to the presentation of an electronic nose, we offer an exciting program for young and old to puzzle, learn and take part in(/smell).
Always follow your nose! Cocktail Lounge:
Our (alcohol-free) cocktail lounge in the garden of the Chair of Materials Science and Nanotechnology invites you to enjoy cold drinks on comfortable deck chairs. You are a little bit experimental? Then build your cocktail - not by ingredient, but by the smells of the ingredients!
Always follow your nose! The great smelling memory:
Everyone can do memory by the picture! Here comes a new challenge: In this memory game, the matching smells must be found. A challenge for young and old!
Always follow your nose! Want to get a SMELL of psychology?:
How well can I actually smell? And what does this molecule smell like? Find out how good your smelling skills are and help us advance our research while you're at it! We need YOUR opinion - what do these samples smell like? In the end, we want to create a big database of olfactory perception! Of course, there's a small reward for everyone and the chance to take part in our great lottery!
Always follow your nose! A Nanomaterial based e-Nose:
Curious about how an e-Nose works? Join us for a demonstration of how nanomaterials allow machines to "smell".
Always follow your nose! The great lottery:
There's so much to try, experiment with, learn and, above all, SMELL at the Chair of Materials Science today! Take part in everything, collect stamps and take part in our lottery! There are great prizes to be won!
Always follow your nose! Build your favorite molecule:
What is the chemical structure of a smell? Try it out by building your favorite molecule on the computer or with our molecule construction kit. Print it out and press it into a button to take home as a souvenir!
Always follow your nose! Witchcraft and Wizardry: HUGE effects at a scale of 0,000000001 m:
From the Lotus effect to the technical magic application of nanolayers. In our Hogwarts-Nanobox of Witchcraft and Wizardry, we show you the recipes for self-cleaning surfaces, hydrophobic wood surfaces, anti-fog glasses, and for sure how to magically protect the Hogwarts Books from fire.
