Gianaurelio Cuniberti has been named Genoa's Ambassador to the World. The Dresden-born professor, a native of Genoa, received this recognition along with 16 other personalities during the traditional Flag Day celebration. The nomination recognizes Cuniberti's role in promoting the city of Genoa and Liguria beyond regional and national borders. All of this took place in the setting of the Ducal Palace and on the broader day dedicated to the Flag Festival, which falls on the day when St. George is celebrated. The celebration then continued in Piazza De Ferrari with a flashmob of more than 300 dancers around the square's fountain.
Present among others were Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Edoardo Rixi, Liguria Region President Giovanni Toti, Genoa Mayor Marco Bucci, and Genoa Prefect Renato Franceschelli.
Cuniberti, a professor at TU Dresden and founding director of DCMS, did his undergraduate studies in physics in Genoa, moving to Liguria. A career that has led him today to lead the Dresden Chair of Nanotechnology with a profile of research excellence and a clear focus on the spinoff of research ideas into innovative startups.
