It is with a heavy heart that we share the very sad news that Dr. Hans-Georg Braun passed away on April 11, 2023 after a long and serious illness. With him, our chair loses a dedicated researcher and teacher.

Hans-Georg earned his doctorate in chemistry at the Albert Ludwigs University in Freiburg before coming to Dresden after working at BASF for almost 10 years. In Dresden, he was group leader at the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research (IPF), responsible for the field of microstructure, and at the same time he was closely connected with TU Dresden and our chair.

At the Max Bergmann Center for Biomaterials he engaged in the research and teaching activities of our chair, even after his official retirement. The cooperation with research institutions and scientists from India benefited greatly from his personal initiative and commitment. We will strongly benefit in the future from his network and the established links!

Working with students was always of great concern to Hans-Georg. In addition to his lectures, which were highly appreciated by the students, he especially supported international students who had newly come to Dresden and whom he helped in finding their way through the demanding interdisciplinary curricula. His commitment, however, went beyond the purely compulsory courses. Teams supervised by him participated very successfully several times in international student competitions on the topics of biotechnology and nanotechnology and benefited from his experience and his scientific and technical creativity.

We will always keep Hans-Georg in honorable memory. Our sympathy goes to his wife and family.
