In the renowned Times Higher Education (THE) magazine's ranking of universities worldwide, the Technische Universität Dresden charges to the top spot of 135th and thus greatly improves its rating by at least 116 places from last year's position of 251 - 275. This now puts the TU Dresden in 8th place in all of Germany. In Europe, the TU Dresden belongs to the top 60 universities. It is also ranked 75th in Engineering and Technology globally, and 5th in Germany.The rector of the TU Dresden, Prof. Hans Müller-Steinhagen, expresses his enthusiasm upon receiving the good news from London: "Our successes with the Excellence Initiative and with the national and international funding and development programmes, the many successful search procedures, the record number of applications for admission to the TU Dresden and the increasing emergence of a common identity are reflected at this point also in the ranking by the German Research Foundation - Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), the QS World University Ranking and now also in the THE ranking. There is no doubt about it: The hard work of recent years has proven worthwhile! We have come a giant step closer to our goal of achieving greater visibility world-wide as a top university. Ranking lists are, of course, merely ONE indicator of a university's performance. What is most important to us is to attract highly qualified students and scientists to our university and to provide them with optimal conditions for their studies and research projects. And yet, even in this respect, these rankings are of great and steadily increasing significance."
In addition to the commitment shown by all employees of the TU Dresden, an important factor for this success is found in the unique research partnership DRESDEN-concept, through which the university coordinates its core research areas, its research infrastructure and its efforts to attract top researchers jointly with 22 strong partner institutions representing science and culture, thus achieving enormous additional benefit for all parties involved.
